It is worth choosing international certificates

Read the interview with Maciek and find out which certificates are the most significant for a Project Manager.

Which certificate is the most valuable to you?

Maciej Wylężek, Programme Manager at ISP: The PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is the most valuable to me. This certificate is recognized and honored worldwide. It provides demonstrable proof of knowledge and skills of a Project Manager.

How much time do you need to prepare to an exam? How to gather a sufficient knowledge?

Maciej: Preparing for an exam takes from three to six months. To pass the exam you need to acquire knowledge from the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide) book. You also must have at last three years of experience in project management. This experience is required when you want to attempt the exam (The questions are mainly related to your experience, you cannot learn it from books). This certification helps you to enhance your knowledge of project management.

Why certification is so important?

Maciej: Industry certification is a confirmation of our competence and a certain knowledge. When you prepare for the exam you structuralize and complete your previous knowledge. It is very common that you need a specific certificate to occupy a certain position in some companies (for instance, you need to obtain the CISA certification to work as an IT Auditor). It is worth choosing certificates that are widely known and acclaimed because they make our cooperation with other countries much easier, due to their standardization, language, structure and so on. Additionally, it helps you to become you more competitive in the labour market.

Could you determine the certification track you would like to pursue?

Maciej: This year I would like to get ISACA’s CRISC (Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control) certification. It is a new certificate in the IT industry, it proves your knowledge of risk and information systems control.
